This is an amazing trek in western corner of Mongolia where it is bordering with China from its south and with Russia from its north. This area is Altai mountains. The place where we will do trekking is less traveled by people. It’s hard to get there by car or jeep. So, we will pack camels for our all stuff, and will start walking through breathtaking landscapes where Kazakh and Tuvan nomads spend their summer!

We invite you to visit western Mongolian most remote villages where China, Russia, and Kazakhstan are just a stone’s throw away. We invite you to experience people who live differently than you do. Thanks to their austere and rusting reality they have acquired a kind of freedom that not everyone is able to handle. Being with them you become different too as if you were living another life.

  • Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Mongolia for vegetarians
  • Mongolia has a large enough selection of vegetables so you can travel in Mongolia with no worries and with no problems. Many Mongolian touristic destinations and attractions are located not in the town so before you travel out of the town or city make sure that you will have enough food with you that will last until you are back in the nearest town. If you are traveling with a local tour agency or with a local tour company make sure that you did let them know before you arrive or meet them so they can start managing this for you before your arrival.
  • How do I get to Ulgii?
  • Mongolia has the only international airport in Ulaanbaatar city which is the capital of Mongolia. There are no other places with international airports. So after you arrive in Ulaanbaatar you will need to take a flight to other provinces or destinations. So there are two other domestic airlines that you can catch to get to Ulgii. One is Hunnu Air (www.hunnuair.com) and another one is Aero Mongolia (www.aeromongolia.mn).
  • What is weather like?
  • In summer in western Mongolia is very hot during the day time. Some days might be windy and some days rainy. The average temperature is between +18 to +25 while you are traveling in low areas around the towns. But if you will go traveling on the mountain in Altai Tavan Bogd national part it is colder there. Weather changes often as it can stay warm and sunny and after a few hours there can be windy, rainy and start even snow in some areas and after a few hours there can be sunny and warm again. So be prepared for any weather conditions while you are traveling in western Mongolian national park. Inside the national park is between +20 and +10 during the daytime. And during the night time, it is between +14 and +7. The weather condition is also different in those areas depending on its altitudes.
  • What is altitude?
  • Western Mongolian “Altai Tavan Bogd” national park is the highest point of all Mongolia. Elevation of lowest areas around 1,710 m and highest is around 4,374 m. “Tavan Bogd Mountain” are 5 highest peaks of Mongolia. Khuiten peak is the highest point of Mongolia 4,374 m, Nairamdal peak 4,180 m, Burged peak 4,068, Malchin peak 4,050 and Olgii peak 4,050. Malchin peak is easy to access point where you can hike without any special equipment. Easy to get on its top and it has beautiful views of Russian mountains and the Altai mountain range.
  • Shower during the trip
  • Normally in the camping tours in western Mongolia no shower facilities are available. If you want it during your tour and want to include you can discuss it with a tour agency and can do extra payment and include it on your tour. So they can carry a small standing special tent for that and you can take shower during your tour. You can heat water for a shower on gas-stove.
  • Toilet facilities
  • There are toilets that look like camping toilets but normally people prepare to go to nature around. Again as a camping shower by discussing with a travel agency you can take a portable camping toilet for the tour if you think it is required for you.
  • Access to WiFi
  • There are no problems with wifi while you are in the city or in the towns. When you are traveling out of the town there is no wifi and in most places even don’t have a mobile reception as well. So before you go on tour make sure that you have sent all your important e-mails and have notified all the people that you needed.
